Overview

"This thwarted forward motion is intentionally irritating, as Ms. Dunphy forces her audience to experience a small frustration that is nothing compared to the injustice of apartheid. But her images, such as an elephant caged and carried off in a truck, are often too blatant. Quotations from South Africans, presented on title cards, suggest we cannot truly see the faces or hear the voices of South Africa. Its message is heartfelt, but "Lived in Quotes" is not politically or artistically sophistic
